University - The Particular

Hochschule Emden/Leer is a welcoming university of applied sciences, with a strong regional presence and where each student counts. Learning largely takes place in small groups and has a project-oriented focus. Our teaching staff supports each student in a way that’s best for him or her.

The University's proximity to the sea provides numerous recreational activities (sailing, kitesurfing, etc.) that very few universities can match. Another advantage is that students can expect lower living expenses in the medium-sized cities of Emden and Leer compared to nearby metropolitan areas (which are, however, still easily accessible).

Background - The Insight

Hochschule Emden/Leer was recently designated as a "Fair Trade University" for its commitment to sustainable development. Hochschule Emden/Leer is the ninth university in Germany with this distinction. Social responsibility and sustainability are very important topics for us, and influence our overall concept. With a wide range of programme opportunities in this field and with a variety of measures and cooperative activities (greentech Ostfriesland, Green Shipping, etc.), we are endeavouring to break new paths in this field in the Region of East Frisia and in Lower Saxony.
