University - The Particular

Braunschweig is one of the most active research regions in Europe. More than 20 world-renowned research institutions in the vicinity and industrial global players have close links to the TU Braunschweig. Our students have the opportunity to work with our partners and later, with the right qualifications, to pursue a doctorate there.

It is the students who make the campus especially attractive. In the "Sandkasten" (sandpit) project, they design open spaces, learning environments and foyers themselves. They develop and build attractive and practical things: from seating furniture for working, debating and chilling to a garden project.

Study Programme - Main Focus

TU Braunschweig is a technical university with a rich tradition. We offer

  • a comprehensive range of engineering courses, including architecture, civil and environmental engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering
  • strong natural sciences with an excellent professional network within the university,
  • industrial engineering, humanities and social sciences,
  • educational sciences and subject didactics.

Our strategic research fields are mobility, infections and active agents, city of the future, and measurement technology. The focus on aerospace engineering at the Research Airport is what makes us unique.

Background - The Insight

TU Braunschweig got its name "Carolo-Wilhelmina" from its founding fathers, the Dukes Carl and Wilhelm of Braunschweig-Lüneburg. One of the early students was the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. Winning the title "City of Science 2007" was something special. Together with the city, research institutions, Braunschweig University of Art, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, and business partners, TU Braunschweig rocked the region for a whole year. This spirit still shapes us today – visible, for example, in the many events held at the "Haus der Wissenschaft" (House of Science).

What's special here?

In 2013, students at our university constructed the world's biggest paper plane and made it into the Guinness Book of Records. A previous attempt the year before had failed. This is in keeping with our maxim that already characterized the Dukes of Braunschweig and motivates us to this day: "nec aspera terrent" (adversities shall not deter us). Those who do not give up can achieve incredible things.
