University - The Particular

Braunschweig is one of the most active research regions in Europe. Over 20 world-renowned research facilities in the vicinity and industrial global players have close links to the Technische Universität Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig, or TU Braunschweig for short. Our students have the opportunity to work with our partners and later, with the right qualifications, to pursue a doctorate there.

It is the students who make the campus especially attractive. After all, in the "Sandkasten" (sandpit) project, students design open spaces, study environments and foyers themselves. They develop and construct attractive and practical items, such as seating furniture for working, debating and chilling out, and have initiated a garden project.

Study Programme - Main Focus

TU Braunschweig is a technical university with a rich tradition. We offer

  • A complete engineering branch, covering architecture, civil and environmental engineering, electrical engineering, informatics and mechanical engineering
  • A strong natural sciences branch with an excellent professional network within the University,
  • Business sciences, social sciences and the humanities
  • Educational sciences and subject-specific teaching skills.

Our strategic research fields are mobility, infections and active agents, city of the future, and metrology. The aerospace engineering area of specialisation at the Research Airport is what makes us unique.

Background - The Insight

TU Braunschweig got its name "Carolo-Wilhelmina" from its founding fathers, the dukes Carl and Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Lüneburg. One of its past students was the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. Winning the title of "City of Science 2007" was something special. Together with the city, research facilities, Braunschweig University of Art, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, and business partners, TU Braunschweig rocked the region for a whole year. We continue to be shaped by this spirit to this day – as is evident by many of the events held at the Haus der Wissenschaft (House of Science), for example.

What's special here?

In 2013, students at our University constructed the world's biggest paper plane, earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records. A previous attempt the year before had failed. This is in keeping with our maxim, coined by Braunschweig’s dukes, which motivates us to this day: "nec aspera terrent" (adversities shall not deter us). Those who do not give up can achieve incredible accomplishments.
