University - The Particular

Ensuring our students receive optimal support is a matter of priority. Students are up close to science, lecturers and the administration. These are good framework conditions. A university of opportunities. Osnabrück University is "at the very heart of things", in the centre of a medium-sized city that offers food for thought in culture and lifestyle, as well as green, rural surroundings. Our students take their meals at one of the best dining halls in Germany.

Study Programme - Main Focus

Around 180 attractive, modern degree programmes are offered, such as Biology, Computer Science, Physics, Psychology, Information Systems and Teacher Education. Its distinguishing courses include Master's programmes in International Migration and Cross Cultural Relations, Cognitive Science and European Studies. Osnabrück University is breaking new ground in Germany in the area of Islamic Theology and Islamic Religious Education.

Background - The Insight

One key feature is the combination of different academic disciplines, such as in Migration Research, Cognitive Science, Environmental Systems Research and Early Modern Research. Additional highly visible key areas include the prevention of occupational skin diseases, as well as early childhood education. The Research Center for Cellular Nanoanalytics Osnabrück opened in 2017.

In 2014, the university was awarded one of the most highly endowed research awards in Germany, a Humboldt Professorship in Environmental Economics. The university is also home to Germany’s newest Botanical Garden, which is used for teaching and research, as well as offering relaxation.

What's special here?

Osnabrück has the smallest student residence in Germany. The small half-timbered tower, part of the medieval city fortifications, offers unusual living space for one resident over three storeys.
