One Collaborative Research Centre, five research centres, two interdisciplinary institutes and 16 research units make the university an attractive place for research-based learning. At the University of Osnabrück, we place particular importance on close supervision and direct collaboration with teaching staff and external partners from the Osnabrück economic and cultural region, as well as with contacts across Germany and internationally.
We offer over 180 degree programmes across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, law, and economics. Some of our programmes are rare in Germany, such as Islamic Studies or Cognitive Science, while others, like Environmental Systems Science or Embedded Software Systems, are unique. Our Department of Law is a leader in the fields of business law, European law, and comparative law. Osnabrück University is also the largest centre for teacher training in the whole of Lower Saxony.
For us, equality and diversity, sustainability and internationality are not merely guiding principles; they are an integral part of our university’s mission – everyone is welcome here. Our Equal Opportunity Office provides advice on matters such as gender equality, studying whilst raising a child, or balancing academic life with caregiving responsibilities. The International Office supports students from all over the world. On our sustainable campus, everyone is invited to come together, develop new concepts for sustainability, and engage in an exchange of ideas.
Osnabrück is home to Germany’s smallest student hall of residence. The little half-timbered turret, part of the medieval city defences, offers one person an unusual living space spread over three levels.
Osnabrück University is ‘right in the heart of it all’. Whether it’s heading to the Schlossgarten during lunch break or popping into one of the pubs in the city centre after lectures - thanks to the excellent transport links, you can reach any destination in just a few minutes by bike or by bus.
