University - The Particular

The University of Hildesheim offers individualised study programmes in a personal atmosphere in the heart of Lower Saxony, with around 8,000 students. As a foundation university, it combines science and practice through networking with regional, national and international partners. The university is renowned for offering degree programmes with a high practical relevance, such as in teacher training and cultural studies. In addition, students at the University of Hildesheim benefit from a wide range of support programmes, such as at the start of their studies. The university values interdisciplinary thinking and a "trial approach", which makes it an attractive place to study.

Study Programme - Main Focus

Five core areas with 25 bachelor’s degree and 26 (follow-up) master’s degree programmes characterise the range of courses on offer. The field of "Educational and Social Sciences" encompasses psychology and socio-educational study programmes, the content of which is closely linked to "Teacher Training for Primary and Secondary Schools". Degree programmes related to "Art & Culture" are at home on Marienburg Culture Campus, offering programmes such as "Creative Writing and Scenic Arts". Our information science programmes come under "Language & Digital Communication". Course offerings from the area of "Environment, Economics and Computer Science" complete our portfolio.

Background - The Insight

The Centre for Educational Integration at the University of Hildesheim researches topics such as diversity, inclusion and democracy in a migration society. Linguistics and teacher training promote multilingual education and social justice. Psychology focuses on resilience and mental health. In the information technologies, the focus is on artificial intelligence and sustainable digitalisation. The Centre for World Music strengthens cultural participation and examines music as a medium for empowerment and social cohesion. The Centre for Gender Studies is committed to raising awareness, promoting and implementing gender studies from a transdisciplinary perspective. Last, but not least, the University of Hildesheim is committed to environmental protection; it is a Fairtrade University and established the "green office" as a central institution for sustainability in 2018.

What's special here?

At the University of Hildesheim, students can fully develop their creativity in artistic degree programmes such as cultural studies and artistic practice, literary writing and cultural journalism, and scenic arts. The aptitude tests for these degree programmes are the first step towards studying and offer a unique opportunity to demonstrate your talent.

I study at the University of Hildesheim because…

"…I particularly like the combination of practice and theory."
