Our university is located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Upper Harz Mountains, surrounded by nature. Study Programme - Main Focus

The Clausthal University of Technology offers 17 bachelor’s and 19 master’s degree programmes in the fields of natural and materials science, energy and raw materials, process engineering and mechanical engineering, computer science and economics. The circular economy runs like a common thread through the entire range of courses. In this way, we are taking responsibility for a sustainable future and train the specialists of tomorrow.

Background - The Insight

In 2025 Clausthal University of Technology celebrates its 250th anniversary. Engineers have been trained in the Upper Harz region since 1775 – formerly in mining, today in a wide range of degree programmes and disciplines. Our graduates are in high demand in business, industry, and research. Numerous industrial partnerships in Germany and around 150 international university and research collaborations enable practical studies and offer various opportunities for global exchange.

What's special here?

Clausthal University of Technology is the only German university located in a winter sports area. At an altitude of 600 metres above sea level, we are also the highest university in Lower Saxony. Combined with our excellent study conditions, we see ourselves in more ways than one as a university for those who want to aim high!

Where to meet

In addition to a large campus with a cafeteria, library and halls of residence, student life in Clausthal offers a special place: the "StuZ" (short for Student Centre). This is where the student’s union and student initiatives meet during the day. In the evening, it’s party time in the basement club. The student services organisation of Eastern Lower Saxony also has its offices here.
