University - The Particular

A personal atmosphere awaits students at the University of Hildesheim, located in the heart of Lower Saxony, in the immediate vicinity of the state capital Hannover. The modest size of the university, with a student population of around 8,000, makes it easy for new students to find their way around, and offers a great deal of flexibility for studies based on individual interests. Here, studying also means "trying out" – after all, the university is renowned for offering degree programmes with a high practical relevance, such as in Teacher Training and Cultural Studies. In addition, students at the University of Hildesheim benefit from a wide range of support programmes, such as at the start of their studies.

Study Programme - Main Focus

Five core areas characterise the range of courses on offer. The "Educational and Social Sciences" area encompasses psychology and socio-educational study programmes, the content of which is closely linked to "Teacher Training in Primary and Secondary Education". Degree programmes related to "Art & Culture" are at home on Marienburg Culture Campus, offering programmes such as Creative Writing and Scenic Arts. Our information science programmes come under "Language & Communication". Course offerings from the area of "Environment, Economics and Computer Science" complete our portfolio.

Background - The Insight

Widening participation in education is a key feature at the University of Hildesheim, as evidenced in the university opening up its programmes to holders of vocational qualifications and international students. Promoting refugees' participation in education is a key task to which the university is currently committed, featuring numerous projects.

What's special here?

"It's purrrrfect" – Hildesheim's campus cat Fräulein Sinner felt very much at home at the university, and even achieved cult status. The dainty female cat, a resident on campus for over 17 years, constantly brought a smile to the faces of students when strutting down lecture theatres or snoozing in her very own cushioned seat. Fräulein Sinner passed away in 2019.
